Spouse – Open Work Permit

If you are the spouse or common-law partner of a skilled worker or international student, you are eligible to apply for an open work permit in Canada. Your spouse or common-law partner may be eligible for an open work permit if you:

• have a valid study permit and
• are a full-time student at one of these types of schools:
  • a public post-secondary school, such as a college or university, or CEGEP in Quebec
  • a private college-level school in Quebec
  • a Canadian private school that can legally award degrees under provincial law (for example, Bachelors, Masters or Doctorate degree)
• are working in NOC 0 ,A,B  category job
• Skill Type 0 (zero): management jobs
• Skill Level A: professional jobs that usually call for a degree from a university
• Skill Level B: technical jobs and skilled trades that usually call for a college diploma or training as an apprentice
• have applied for PR under an eligible program and already received the AOR
